What Should Match for Marriage?

Marriage matching is also known as horoscope matching or Kundli matching. It is a traditional practice in many cultures, particularly in Hinduism and astrology-based systems. It is the process of assessing the compatibility between two individuals who are considering marriage.

Analysis of similarity between the natures,  tastes, mental dispositions, and likings & dislikings of prospective husband and wife on the basis of planetary position and constellations matching by their horoscopes is called matching of horoscopes. The prospective husband and wife having similar mental disposition and likings & disliking get attracted to each other. 


 The aim of marriage matching is to ensure a harmonious and blissful marital life by identifying potential challenges or areas of compatibility between the couple. It is believed that a higher compatibility score indicates a better chance of a successful and fulfilling marriage. 

 

This way the prospective husband and wife become a supplement of each other. They remain always ready to sacrifice for each other. They lead a  prosperous and happy conjugal life.

Some common factors considered in marriage matching include: 

  • Matching of Yogas 
  • Matching of planets
  • Matching of stars 


Matching of Yoga: 

A horoscope is the reflection of past, present, and future life. The Yogas in the horoscope Says the present and future of the native. If the Yogas in the horoscope Say long life, mental stability, prosperity, and good health then only the native is compatible to get married. So before matching the two horoscopes, one should examine the horoscope as an individual only. 


Matching of planets:

 In this process, the inauspiciousness of malefic planets. Dasha, Antardasha of Marak & Badhak planet is analyzed. It is advised to look into the malefic influence or inauspiciousness of planets. Dasha and Antardasha of Mark and Badhak planets in a boy's horoscope are more than that of a girl. This should be analyzed before matching Gunas.


Matching of stars: 

The matching of stars is done after the matching of planets. In this process, tastes, likings nature, mental disposition, conjugal life, progeny, fortune or fate, etc. of the prospective husband and wife are analyzed by the stars.   Matching of stars or constellations, the following eight points are studied. 1. Varna, 2. Vashya, 3. Tara, 4. Yoni, 5. Matching of Rasi lords, 6. Gana, 7. Bhakoot, and 8. Nadi. 

The combination of all 8 points is also called Ashtakuta  Millan. Every Kuta has been given certain marks as mentioned below. This is also called Gana.

  • Now the question is why one and eight Gunas have been given to Varna and Nadi respectively?  But it has been mentioned in the Vedic Books. 


  • The prospective husband and wife should get 21 Kutas out of 36 if there is no similarity in their Nadi, Bhakoot, and Ganas.


 

The Guna Milan system evaluates eight different aspects, known as "Kootas" or "Gunas." These aspects are:


  1. Varna: It measures the spiritual compatibility and intellectual level of the couple.
  2. Vashya: It assesses the dominance and control factors in the relationship.
  3. Tara: It examines the longevity and well-being of the partners.
  4. Yoni: It determines the sexual compatibility and physical intimacy between the couple.
  5. Graha Maitri: It evaluates the compatibility of the planetary positions and the overall friendship between the partners.
  6. Gana: It assesses the temperament and nature of the couple.
  7. Bhakoota: It examines the compatibility of their minds and emotional connection.
  8. Nadi: It determines the genetic compatibility and potential health issues in the offspring.


Each of these aspects is assigned a certain number of points, and the total score is calculated by summing up the points obtained in all the aspects. The maximum achievable score in Guna Milan is 36.


It's important to note that while marriage matching holds cultural and traditional significance for many people, its effectiveness and relevance vary among individuals. It's a personal choice whether to consider horoscope matching as a factor in the decision to marry.
